How Much Does It Cost To Replace Shocks?
Benchmark Transmission & Auto Care is occasionally asked by our customers in the Newark ~ Middletown ~ New Castle area how much they can expect to pay to replace shocks in their vehicles. Our automotive shock specialists tell them that the cost to replace car shock absorbers can vary on different factors to include the age of the car or truck and whether it is a performance car or a typical passenger car.
Newer Vehicles (2006 - Present)
The shocks on newer model cars are generally more complicated than shocks used just before 2006. Typically we tell our customers that shocks for newer cars can cost on average $325 to $400 for a set of four shocks on a normal passenger sedan.
Older Vehicles (1994 - 2005)
The shocks for older model cars and trucks are designed simpler and usually more readily available. Typically the cost of shocks for older vehicles can run about $40 less than shocks for newer model vehicles.

"In the 3 years since we bought our son's '99 Mustang it has had repeated transmission and clutch problems. The car is now in DE with our son who is a student there. When the Mustang recently began showing signs of yet more problems with the transmission/clutch we weren't sure where to turn. Should we have the car towed home to our mechanic in NJ or trust a total stranger in DE to diagnose and fix the problem? If we did the latter, would we get fleeced? Looking for advice we called AAA. "Mr. Dante Principe Jr.,Two weeks ago, I took my 98 VW Golf to the Smith VW dealer for a non-transmission related problem. Upon completion of that work, the dealer told me that my 2nd gear on my Automatic Transmission was sticking and that I needed a new transmission. I told them I did not want them to do that type of work on my car.
