What Can Cause A Differential To Fail?
Benchmark Transmission & Auto Care tells our customers in the Newark & Middletown area that the differential in a vehicle is no different than any other component in that it is subject to wear and some vehicle's differentials fail before others. The leading cause of a differential failing is due to using the wrong lubricant type and specialty lubricants. Water can also be a culprit to a differential failing as it can enter through the vent or seals. This often happens when driving in high water. When water enters it will emulsify the differential lubricant and result in rusting on gear and bearing surfaces. Seized U-joints that result in vibration can cause differential failure as well.

Stan Kaminski of Newark Delaware
"I just wanted to say thanks for fixing all my transmission problems over the many years I have used your shop. Whether its was front wheel drive in my wife's 1999 Buick or my rear wheel drive 1968 Pontiac Le Mans, you always came through. You guys are always thorough and the work was done right. Tell your crew I appreciate their good work. As a mechanic I am confident coming to your business. I recommend it to my friends should their vehicles need servicing. Keep up the good work."
Our gas mileage improved, shifting was much better, and we couldn't be happier.
Charles Baynard of Henderson Maryland
"To the Principe boys: We brought our 33' RV to Newcastle for transmission repair and an engine tune-up in June. We then drove it to Maine, about 600 miles or so, from Maryland and back. We never had one problem!! Our gas mileage improved, shifting was much better, and we couldn't be happier. You guys are the greatest. We will recommend you to our friends and, if we need any work done, we'll be back!! Thanks so much for your friendly and professional service. Helen and Charles B."
I will be having all of our cars serviced at Benchmark in the future, because I know I can trust them. It truly was a pleasure doing business with them.
Sherry Keefe of Middletown Delaware
"I arrived at Benchmark Transmission sure that I was going to get the same estimate that I had just received at Union Park Honda. I was so wrong!! When Mitch called me with the estimate and it was $3800.00 less, I was in shock. I was about to buy a new car instead of having this one repaired because of the cost. I will be having all of our cars serviced at Benchmark in the future, because I know I can trust them. It truly was a pleasure doing business with them."
It was a very pleasant experience dealing with Benchmark Transmission.

"I hope this letter is able to transmit to you and your staff at Benchmark Transmission, the complete satisfaction I have received from your outstanding and professional service, as well as my sincere gratitude for your honesty and your dedication to providing your customers with the best job you can possibly do... I had tried several times at several places to ask for just a few minutes to be able to "show" the car's problem, but nobody would give me such time, but you. When you said "sure no problem, we'll go for a test drive together", I knew you were the right person and felt immediate confidence in you and in that whatever you found to be the problem you would do the right and honest work. I was right. It was a very pleasant experience dealing with Benchmark Transmission. I wish there were more human beings like you; truly, the world would be a better place."
I would like to extend my thanks to Rich and Don for quickly diagnosing my daughters Toyota problem. It was more severe than any of us expected. Your shop was right up front with me on my options since we are so far away. They kept our vehicle save and secure for over a week and never asked

I decided to get it checked out by an expert at Benchmark Transmission before I did any damage
Wilbur Rivera of Newark Delaware
"Mr. Dante Principe Jr.,Two weeks ago, I took my 98 VW Golf to the Smith VW dealer for a non-transmission related problem. Upon completion of that work, the dealer told me that my 2nd gear on my Automatic Transmission was sticking and that I needed a new transmission. I told them I did not want them to do that type of work on my car. I decided to get it checked out by an expert at Benchmark Transmission before I did any damage.I looked in the Yellow Pages and decided to call your office and get an estimate. You told me that I should bring the car in and allow you check it out at "no charge". You mentioned it could be something simple which would greatly reduce the repair cost. Last week I Brought my car in to your shop in Newark Delaware. You checked the car and found out the programming on the throttle body and the transmission where not responding. I think you relearned these components and you fixed my car. When you called me, you told me that there was no charge for the work you did to my car. As I drove my car home and felt how smoothly the transmission shifted from gear to gear: I immediately started to "thank god" for taking my car to your shop and dealing with you. As I write this note to you, I realized how rare it is to find people like you that are willing to help people in trouble without taking advantage of them and/or expecting anything in return.Sincerely yoursWilber Rivera"

Benchmark Transmission gives me the confidence that as long as I want to keep my vehicles, they will keep them running good condition.
Rod Pelkey of Newark Delaware
"I am the owner of 3 late model Ford Explorers (92, 93, 95) and a 99 Subaru Legacy. I have been dealing with Benchmark, Dante (Owner) for over 8 years. I have not alway taken the best care of my vehicles in terms of preventive maintenance, and checking into the little noises that give you that feeling that something is wrong, therefore I've experienced more problems than necessary. Despite my neglect, whenever I've taken my cars to Benchmark, I have always been treated to the best of service. Benchmark has both replaced and repaired transmissions in my vehicles, and has done wonderful work, and at a reasonable cost. I have never been dissatisfied, Dante is always willing to work with me. I have nearly 300,000 miles on one explorer, 200,000 on anther, and over 150,000 on the Legacy. Benchmark Transmission gives me the confidence that as long as I want to keep my vehicles, they will keep them running good condition. Thanks Benchmark!"

You have earned our trust not only in your integrity but in your knowledge of transmissions
Jersey City New Jersey
Laurie Hall of Jersey City New Jersey
"In the 3 years since we bought our son's '99 Mustang it has had repeated transmission and clutch problems. The car is now in DE with our son who is a student there. When the Mustang recently began showing signs of yet more problems with the transmission/clutch we weren't sure where to turn. Should we have the car towed home to our mechanic in NJ or trust a total stranger in DE to diagnose and fix the problem? If we did the latter, would we get fleeced? Looking for advice we called AAA. They recommended Benchmark Transmission. My son immediately drove his car over to Benchmark. Dante and Rich checked the car over, spoke multiple times with me on the phone about their findings, and ultimately suggested that they try some simple and inexpensive adjustments to see if those might solve the problem. They did. My son picked the car up 24 hours after dropping it off and says it shifts perfectly now. Because the labor involved was not extensive Dante even refused to accept payment for his work/time. Thank you, Dante and Rich, for your honesty, for not suggesting that the only course of action was to pull the transmission and search for the root of the recurrent problem. You have earned our trust not only in your integrity but in your knowledge of transmissions as well. Rest assured that if we should need transmission work in the future, we will trust you to do it. "
